Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton (born October 26, 1947) is an American politician, former diplomat, and First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. She served as the junior U.S. Senator from New York from 2001 to 2009 and as the 67th U.S. Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013. In 2008, she sought and lost the Democratic Party’s nomination for President of the United States to then-Senator Barack Obama. She became the Democratic Party's nominee for President in the 2016 election.
